Zero Day 4 - Idyllwild

So, the pie guys caught up last night. They convinced me to take another zero day. I really didn't want to get further behind my friends again, but there will be plenty of time to catch up.

I'm actually glad I took the zero. Karen, a trail angel, made dinner last night and brought breakfast this morning. It was some sort of quiche or frittata. Whatever it was, it was delicious!

I bought a new hiking shirt, one that is long sleeved that can be buttoned up to a short sleeve, and has plenty of ventilation up the sides and under the arms. A litle expensive, but I think it will work better than my other shirt. Plus, I'm getting tired of being burned day after day. Also got some thicker, cushier hiking socks and a new Tyvek groundsheet. I was using an emergency blanket, but it was too loud - wind would shake it or just rolling on it made it crinkle loudly. Annoying.

Idyllwild is a cute little town. There was some sort of Dodge Viper convention here yesterday. Or maybe some sort of Viper gang...? I'm not sure, but there was a live band playing and the restaurant was serving BBQ. It was a good way to spend an afternoon.

I decided to camp with the other hikers at the San Jacinto State Park. If you're a hiker, the price is only $3. Much better than the inn, and they have showers. Wish I had known that before... Oh well. These guys are kind of rowdy, but all fun! Hope I can keep up with this crowd.
