Day 24 - Hiking A Marathon

I walked 26.5 miles today. My feet hurt.

We wokw up from Sulpher Springs and found the place frosted over. Both sides of the tent were covered in condesation and it had frozen over, due to the catabatic effect (look it up). We got started quickly just to get out of the cold and into the sun.

Today was a pretty darn good day. We stopped at a ranger station for lunch, and I was jonesing for a soda. Sparky was still with us, and he yogi-ed some sodas from one of the rangers. Mmmm.... Diet Mountain Dew. It was so good.

The landscape was of course gorgeous. Canyons covered in pines, firs and cedars, as well as some sort of cottonwood? Not sure, but it was just lovely. The sky was the deepest blue, the sun was out, and I wasn't cold any more. A very good day.

We were trying to get to Messenger Flats Campground, which was 24 miles from where we camped the night before. I didn't know this, and thought it was only 22 miles. I wanted to get to the Saufley's as soon as I could, and was trying for 24 miles, so I wanted to push on. It wasn't until we got to Messenger Flats and were talking to other hikers that I realized we had already gone 24 miles, and I still energy to go a few more. Woo-hoo! Almost 27 miles!!

My right achilles tendon is sore though. I think I may be pushing myself a little hard. BUt that's okay. I'll zero at the Saufley's.
