I got a late start this morning, around 11:30. I wasn't thinking of going too far anyway. But holy hell. This trail is 2.5 miles long, but has an ascent of 1600 feet! It was really hard, and I was trying to get past Fuller's Ridge. There had been rumors that this part of this section was quite treacherous. But there was no way I was getting there today. I just didn't have the energy.
I know I mentioned never cowboy camping again, but I was too exhausted to set up my tent (btw, I have to be pretty damn tired to not set up a tent that takes five minutes max to set up). I was hiking with Don't Panic, and we both decided that it would be easier to cowboy camp, because it's one less thing to have to break down in the morning. We were then just past the north fork of the San Jacinto River, which is at about 8800 feet of elevation. It's going to be a cold night.
