Day 42 - Silver Pass

Woke up, had a big breakfast, then on to the ferry. My next stop is Mammoth Lakes, and I can get there tomorrow easily. But first I have to go over Silver Pass. The hike was pretty much like the rest of the trail so far. Creeks to ford, trees, meadows, mountains and views. The pass itself was easy, just extremely windy! I almost got blown over on a switchback, which would not have ended well had I fallen. The tral on the other side was lost in snow, so I was able to skip about half a mile by going straight down in the snow. Fun!

I came upon Tully Hole, which was a lovely meadow with a river carving a W in it. It was climbing out of the hole that was a pain in the butt! I was determined to get out, however, because I was coming up on Lake Virginia, which was absolutely beautiful. I took several pictures whe I arrived. The lake is framed by the surrounding mountains, and looks like it begs to have motor/sailboats flying around on it, yet it's so beautiful, it also begs to not have anyone touch it. One of my favorite spots yet.

I pushed on to Purple Lake, which is where I planned on camping. Ratatouille, Coyote and Smooth Criminal were there, and they had started a small fire to ward off the mosquitos. It was a nice way to end the day.
