I kept my crocs on to spare my feet. The walk out of camp was pretty, with plenty of creeks to cross. Water, water everywhere. A nice change from the desert.
The climb up to Kearsarge was gorgeous. There were lakes below with rivers flowing from one to the next, pine trees covering the valleys, giant mountans with snow surrounding the valley. So pretty. The last bit up Kearsarge, however, was all shale and rock and it was getting hot. When I finally made it to the top, I was exhausted. And I still had 4.5 miles to the parking lot where I had to yogi a ride (i.e., beg). The descent was rough, but again pretty, with a river cascading all the way down to the bottom. There were plenty of trees to provide shade, so it wasn't that bad. It was long, and my feet were hurting, especially my toe.
I did get a ride, and was dropped off at the gas station/Subway. It's the only "grocery" in town, since everyone goes to either Lone Pine or Bishop. After eating a $5 footlong I hobbled over to the motel we agreed to stay at. Only they were booked, and no one had room for me or Don't Panic. So, we walked acros the street to the B&B. This place rocked! We got a hot breakfast, and the owner let us (and other hikers) have full use of his kitchen, including whatever food was stocked (so long as we paid him back). We ate like kings! And, at exactly 8:30, we all marched outside to watch bats fly out of the chimney! It was really cool, and I forgot to bring my camera. Oh well. It was really cool.
