I didn't sleep well; the wind was buffeting me and for whatever reason my mind was racing about nothing. I did manage to get some sleep. Trooper was ready to go well before I was. I told him I would meet him at the pass.
And a good thing I did. I had just caught up to him, and I had talked to some early morning day hikers about the pass. I was informed there was a restaurant at the ski lodge and that were serving breakfast. We went there, ordered food and sat around for almost four hours! The lodge was giving away 40 oz. beers to all of the PCT hikers!! I didn't noticed this was mentioned in the Yogi Guide, and to think I could have missed it!
We did finally leave the restaurant and mosied up the hill (after getting lost because of all the rock climber trails). We were walking toward I-80 and decided to stop at the rest area. Good thing, too, because it started to rain. It stopped, and we needed to go, but of course, once we left the rest area it started to rain again. Oh well, can't win them all.
We climbed our way up the hill and made it to Peter Grubb Hut. This hut was built in 1939 in honor of a Sierra Club member who loved the outdoors but died in Italy in 1937 due to sun exposure. He was only 18 years old, and they dedicated this hut to him. It was really cool, but unfortunately, when I went to take pics of the outside. It started to rain again, so we went inside intending to camp there. TBW showed up, and since they were a bigger bunch, we left to camp with some folks e met.
I don't know where Trooper went, but he passed Arlo and Jenn's tent. I camped with them, and I asked if their dog, Darwin, could bunk with me. I wanted to see what it would be like to camp with a dog. He's a sweet golden retriever, but his snout is bothering him due to all of the mosquito bites. I'm trying to comfort him as much as possible.
