Day 53 - Barker Pass

The sunrise was beautiful, but I was tired after the night hike so I went back to sleep. I finally got myself up and ate breakfast, then packed up and headed out. It was 8:00 and everyone else was still asleep. So I went on by myself.

There were a lot of lakes in this area, and I was determined to go swimming, even if the water was cold. I stopped at Richardson Lake for lunch, and jumped in before making my food. The bottom was squishy but the water was warm. I swam for about half an hour then made gnocchi with marinara. After about two hours of sitting, I decided I should start moving again. I was hoping to put in 25 miles.

I started to get bored on my hike. I don't know if it was me being tired, or that the scenery was basically the same. The smoke from up north was making everything hazy to, so that didn't help. I finally climbed to Barker Pass, and was going to press on, when a trail angel finished replenishing a soda cache and some other people offered us (me, Trooper and Smooth) free beer. Then, one of Jester's friends showed up loaded with beer and fresh fruit. Okay, twist my arm, I guess I'll stay. We were all chatting and drinking, when Rosie (a fellow hiker who I think was just section hiking) showed up with her catering van and gave us all free food! Glad I stayed!
